Observation : Severe corrosion gouging at a weldbacking
ring.
Cause : Caustic GougingRemarks : Under deposit corrosion, may be due to poor
control of boiler water chemistry, or excessive deposits
from feed-water. Considered poor practice to install backing
rings in water-wall circuits since they provide sites for
preferential corrosion
